DR IN THE HOUSE ON 'OUR BODY IS A TEMPLE'
/

Today’s Dr in the House touches on a tough subject.
Something I believe most all of us struggles with. Our bodies!

THE PROBLEM:  Not taking care of our bodies. Our bodies are falling apart. They’re stressed, ill, obese, lethargic, addicted to sugar, drugs, alcohol…

But what does ‘Our body is God’s temple.’ really mean for our daily lives, and how are we being called to do this?

THE WORD:  Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst? 17 If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy that person; for God’s temple is sacred, and you together are that temple. 1 Corinthians 3:17 16

Well, thank goodness Jesus showed up or I’d be in big trouble!

A Living Sacrifice: Romans 12:1-2 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

THE GIFT: Note our first verse this week is much more of a command. Many verses are if/then teaching verses, but this is written more as a command. We do know that when we partner with God on anything – we get His EVERYTHING. We need His awesome help when trying to overcome some of the poor habits we have learned from this busy and stressful world.

THE CHOICE: FREE WILL

  1. Recognize when we are off. Imagine if God is right beside us, would we eat, drink, or do what plan to? If we were in church, would we?
  2. Know what is written, and what we are being instructed to do. Too often I hear comments and approvals of folks professing that this or that is okay to do because it isn’t in the Bible….but it is.
  3. Remember that we have Jesus. Yahoo!!! He forgives and makes us new. Jesus graciously purified us and God helps us to use this gift wisely. The goal is for us to know the truth, acknowledge the truth, and try to follow the truth.

I BELIEVE IT IS MORE A MATTER OF THE HEART, THAN A MATTER OF PERFECTION.

Where is our heart? Do we desire to know truth and to be more Christ-like?

Today I encourage us to consider how we use and treat our body,
and to cling to what GOD says over what the world says about how we should live.
