RESCUED

WHO DO YOU CRY OUT TO WHEN YOU NEED RESCUED?
THE PROBLEM: When we find ourselves in a difficult or precarious position, we often forget that our first cry for help should be to God, who is our rescuer and deliverer.
THE WORD: And David said, “’The Lord who rescued me from the claws of the lion and the bear will rescue me from this Philistine!’ Saul finally consented. ‘All right, go ahead,’ he said. ‘And may the Lord be with you!’” I Samuel 17:37
David was a shepherd and young man when he uttered these words. His age at this time was anywhere from 16 years-old to his twenties. David had entered King Saul’s camp, where Goliath had issued a challenge that if anyone would fight and kill the giant, the Philistines would become the Israelites’ servants. No soldier or leader was willing to take on the challenge. Only David volunteered to fight Goliath. He proclaimed to King Saul that even though he was young, he would take the challenge because God would deliver him.
I Samuel 17 shows us that David:
- Knew the power of God. As a young Israelite boy, he would have been immersed in the Scripture that proclaimed God’s numerous rescues of Israel. This would have been interwoven into how he viewed the world and the challenge.
- Do you get to, learn and know the world…. It increases your faith and great place to start.
- Personally experienced the hand of God, who had rescued him from the attacks of a lion and a bear.
- Do you practice the Sabbath? Do you look back on, recognize and give God credit. 1st use him?
- Stood firm in his belief and did not let others, like his brother and the King, discourage him.
- Do you day try the impossible or back down with doubt accepted through mans belief?
- Kept his eyes on God rather than the giant.
- Do you know your call and keep on the call?
- Used what God had given him to fight the battle. David rejected King Saul’s offer to dress in a coat of armor and a bronze helmet because they inhibited him rather than helped him. Instead, he used his staff, five smooth stones, and a sling. He didn’t need more than this because he had faith that God had equipped him and that it was through the power of God and not “things” that he would defeat Goliath.
- But do we spend all our time and energy on the THINGS of this world to equip us vrs go with God?
As an adult and King, David continued to remind believers that God rescues and delivers us.
Listen to these powerful trusting cries to God…
“But as for me, my prayer is to You, O LORD, at an acceptable time; O God, in the greatness of your lovingkindness, answer me with your sure salvation. Rescue me from the ire, do not let me sink; deliver me from those who hate me, from the deep waters”. Psalm 69:13-14
“In you, Lord, I have taken refuge; let me never be put to shame.” Psalm 71:1
Stuck in a cave, hiding from an enemy, David writes: “Listen to my cry, for I am in desperate need; rescue me from those who pursue me.” Psalm 142:6
THE GIFT: The Lord of rescue, promises to deliver those who believe in and call upon his name.
THE CHOICE: Just like David, we too can build our faith in God as our deliverer by: But it is all up to free will. Do you need God’s help in your personal life, business, family, a friend, health, finances… (OUR COMMUNITY)
- Remembering God’s power displayed throughout Scripture.
- Reflecting on our own experiences of how God rescued us at different times and in different ways.
- Standing firm on God’s Word rather than the discouraging words of others.
- Keeping our eyes on God rather than the giants in our lives.
- Using the resources God has given us to fight the battles. He has provided his children with all spiritual riches and the gifts that we need to succeed.
