SUCCESSFUL PROBLEM SOLVING

The ideas I stand for are not mine. I borrowed them from Socrates. I swiped them from Chesterfield. I stole them from Jesus. And I put them in a book. If you don’t like their rules, whose would you use? –Dale Carnegie

‘I stole them from Jesus.’

THE PROBLEM: Who are we determining successful from and how are we making decisions? Based ofF what? Society, peers, a good read, yourself? You’ve been influenced, burnt, you know as much as you know.

SO HOW TO MAKE WISE CHOICES…

THE WORD: Dale Carnegie…a tip from Jesus…on Solving Problems.

  1. Assess the history of the problem: Galatians 5:19-21 ESV Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
    • How long has the situation existed? Misspelling, since always, Impulsive, selfish, hot-headed.
    • Has it happened before? It’s a repeated event. Nursing, near misses
  2. Review the current situation:
    • Look for solutions within the problem. Galatians 5:22-25 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.
    • Get the team involves. Wise counsel, Family, coach, pastor friend, spouse.
    • Communication is essential. Wise counsel that goes off of half-truths.
  3. Choose alternatives that support change: 1 Thessalonians 5:21 ESV But test everything; hold fast what is good. Stepping in
    • Create and define ways to solve the issue. Survey manual / Bible
    • Always have more than one in hand…Evaluate every avenue. Proverbs 19:21 ESV Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand.
    • Chose best of best…Proverbs 19:21 ESV Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand.
  4. Pick the best one: 4 Step Process that works
    • During the assessment period, one solution typically pops out. Door opens
    • Discuss all aspects with everyone involved. 1 Timothy 3:2 Therefore an overseer[a] must be above reproach…
    • Get a discussion going and move forward.  Ezekiel 1:12 And each went straight forward; wherever the spirit was about to go, they would go, without turning as they went.
  5. Implement:
    • Test the solution to make sure it makes sense and that it will work. Romans 12:2
    • If it does not, go back to bullet one and begin anew. Galatians 6:9“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

THE GIFT:

  • Learn from mistakes…OVERCOME
  • Steer clear of footholds…STUCK-analysis paralysis
  • Faster success…WAITING on the Lord
  • Greater success…ANNOINTED, with the spirit

THE CHOICE: Held back

  • FREE WILL: GET ONE THING HERE… GOD IS LOVE….WHEN YOU
    • IGNORE with repeat event and greater consequences (nursing)
    • KEEP CHANGING but not fixing
    • TIRE AND GIVE UP, QUIT
